Out of Office
A daily swipe card game about escaping your job
Out of Office is a free card game you play in your phone's browser. You're a mid-level something at OmniCorp, and your colleagues need things from you, constantly. Each card is one of them. Swipe left or right to answer, keep yourself sane, and save up enough to leave for good.
There's a new deck every day, and everyone gets the same one. A run takes a few minutes, so it's a game for the commute, the queue at the coffee machine, or the five minutes before your next meeting about meetings.
How to play
- Swipe to answer. Left or right, or tap a button. Every choice moves your Sanity, Rep and Savings.
- Fill Escape to 100 to quit for good. Let Sanity, Rep or Savings hit zero and you're done for the day. Rent comes out every Friday.
- Don't get promoted. Let Rep reach 100 and they'll promote you, and you'll never leave.
- Watch for wildcards. Some cards just happen to you: the parcel, the fire drill, the reply-all.
Why it suits a commute
- Short. One deck a day, a few minutes a run.
- One-handed. Portrait, one card at a time, swipe or tap.
- No download. It's a web game, so it opens from a link. Add it to your home screen to play it like an app.
- Works offline. Once added to your home screen it plays without a signal, and your result is sent when you're back online. Handy in tunnels.
- Light on data and battery. It's a small page with no video or ads.
Play with friends and colleagues
- Daily leaderboard. Same deck, same chances. Sign in with your email to get your name on it.
- Leagues. Start a league for your team, office or group chat and see who escapes first each week.
- Challenges. Send a friend your result and see if they can beat it on the same deck.
- Share your card. Every run ends with a card showing your ending, stats and every swipe, ready for any app or story.
What's in the office
More than 250 cards from a cast of colleagues: Gary, your line manager; Sharon in Facilities; Linda in Accounts; and the IT Service Desk, who will be there Thursday. Or Saturday. There are 12 endings to find, 25 badges, a weekly story that plays out Monday to Friday, special decks for things like the Christmas party, office gossip, and a daily HR poll. Players write some of the cards themselves, and the best ideas end up on the credits page.
If you like these, you'll like this
It's for people who like daily puzzle games like Wordle, swipe-to-decide card games in the style of Reigns, and office comedy like The Office, W1A and Severance. It's a casual game, a card game and a workplace satire in one, and it's best played while you're pretending to work.
